We are so excited about how God has blessed the youth work in All Saints, Danehill with Chelwood Gate!
A little about our current youth work:
Every Thursday in term time, we run TNT & ICE youth groups which reach out to non-churched young people (aged 11-18) in our villages and surrounding area and regularly have 40+ young people attending. Once every half-term we run ‘Hot Potatoes’, to discuss issues that are important to young people and include the Biblical perspective. In addition H-Kafe, a drop in ‘off the bus’ café runs on Tuesdays (in the neighbouring village of Horsted Keynes). During our 11am Sunday service we run Pathfinders to bring some of the youth together and learn more about Christ.
One of the highlights of the year is May Camp (a Diocesan run Christian festival/camp) attended by circa 500 young people from other Sussex youth groups. We take 40+ young people, 80% of whom are non-churched.
A little about our church and village:
Our church is Anglican and offers a full range of services/worship styles. A relatively new addition is our Worship@4 service which is a highly relaxed and modern 21st Century multimedia service running twice per month. It’s attended by both young people and the young at heart. Overall our church is regularly described as exceptionally welcoming.
If you are less familiar with the area, Danehill & Chelwood Gate are villages on the West/East Sussex border right on the edge of the Ashdown Forest. It’s a wonderful place to live, with its own nursery, primary and prep schools, two good pubs and a social club. Its only 45 minutes drive to the beach (at Brighton or Eastbourne) and there is easy train access to London (from Haywards Heath and East Grinstead station).
A little about the future:
Our church might be “rural”, but our youth work is big by many people’s standards – praise God! We need someone new to champion, organise and lead this large rural youth outreach programme (our previous youth worker stayed three years). There is also so much more that needs to be done for the youth e.g. implement a good Bible Study Group and Summer Camp, so we are also looking for someone who can take things to the next level.
